Recovery Console Admin password

I've checked the MS Knowledge Base.Pretty good info here:

However,it looks like sp1 was supposed to fix this prob of
not being able to logon w/ an Admin Password to run the
Recovery Console. I have sp1a installed on this Dell XP
Home Ed. box, and I have located the two "hotfix" files.
My version of Spcmdcon.sys is "5.1.2600.0" (vs."*.15"),
and my Srrstr.dll file says version 5.1.2600.1106,
(vs. "*.21"), as stated in the MS Article 308402
referenced above.

Any help in getting past this hurdle would be most
appreciated.I would really like to do a repair on this
system.
