Default Recovery console and administrator password

I am in the recovery console and I have been asked to put
my administrator password. Windows XP was already
installed when I purchase my computer and I have no idea
of this password.
What can I do to process further?
Thanks in advance.

Well, it was worth a try. Some functions on XP won't work if you have a
"null password," presumably because they are specific to having an
administrator and if it were that easy to circumvent then people in an
enterprise or other multi-user environment might find it too easy and too
tempting to get around.

If it's a hotfix, it should be available at Windows Update unless you found
a link in the article you read.

I have a similar problem. I was considering re-installing
the os. Would I lose everything that is installed on the
drive?
