Red X in a Word X document

Posted: 11-14-2003, 07:49 PM
I'm running Word X on a Powerbook G4 (after updating to
Office X 10.1.5). I opened a 220 kb file created in some
version of Word for the PC and some of the graphics have
the big 'Red X' instead of the correct graphic. When I
take this same file and open it on an older computer
running OS 9.2 and Word 98 the graphics are fine. This
happens frequently. Does anybody know how to get Word X
running under OS X (10.2.8) to display and print these
graphics?
Thanks!

Hi Brad,

There doesn't seem to be an easy fix for this problem. John McGhie had this
to say about it in a reply to a previous post:
>> But the short answer is no: the red X problem is a bug introduced in Word X

Another newsgroup poster contributed this:
>> In a previous thread, a bunch of people were discussing the fact that they
>> often had red X's instead of placed graphics in MS Word files brought over
>> from the PC and opened in Word X. One astute list reader determined that
>> removing EndNote's "Cite While You Write" add-ins from the Word X startup

Getting rid of the CWYW add-in seems to work for many, thought not all, with
this problem.

Hope this helps.
