regedit

I am trying to remove virus hex keys from the registry.
When I type in regedit and hit the run button the
registry editor appears for 1-2 seconds then closes
again. Can anyone tell me what is going on and how to fix
it?
Thanks,
Alan.

Swen, among other malware, is known to screw with RegEdit.

Greetings --

The behavior you've described is typical behavior of more than one
virus/worm, the three below being the most common:

W32.Yaha

Creates usable copies of REGEDIT, MSCONFIG and Task Manger

Good luck Alan in getting rid of the virus registry entries.

this feature is telling you how many emails you have on your MSN/Hotmail
account, so turning of auto start-up in MSN/Hotmail messager should solve
this for you.

_______________

Hi, Jeff!
Here is the solution.
1) Open the Windows XP registry.
2) Go to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\UnreadMail
3) Find and select the subkey corresponding to your current default
email account.
4) Double-click on the "MessageCount" value.
5) Set it to 0 (zero).
The count from your email account will have stopped on next startup.

Robert
