Regedit problem

Posted: 12-02-2006, 01:49 PM
Hi all.
I have this problem, when I try to install my HP 920C USB printer the
install program is not able to find the printer also if it is on and the USB
cable in.
I have un-installed all about this printer, but in the registry file there
is some entries that are still referencing the printer, something like :

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Enum\USBPR INT\HEWLETT-PACKARDDESKJET_920C]

well I want to delete this entry from my registry but when I try do it there
is an error "impossible to remove the entry"
how can I force to delete this entry ?

Thanks to all

Alberto

You do not normally do this since this is created by the system. Using
regedt32 you can select the itme and go to the edit menu (or right click)
and select the items permissions, change them and you can then delete it.

Install the printer drivers and USB drivers first then hook up the printer
to complete the install when it tells you. HP has a program on their site to
remove all files for this such problem

Most HP Install CD have a utility in one of the directories that will do
a complete clean up and removal, I do not remember the name of the
program at this time.

10ft at max.

I would suggest uninstalling yours HP printer software and running the HP
removal tool (you'll have to track it down on your CD or the HP web site I'm
afraid, I don't have a URL for it).

On top of that, I'd take a look at your device manger to ensure there's no
devices left behind there. Ensuring your printer is disconnected from your
PC, firstly tell device manger to show devices that aren't currently
connected by setting an environment variable devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices
as being equal to 1. Start device manager and select "Show Hidden Devices" in
the View menu. Uninstall any trace of your printer.

Once thats done, reinstall your printer software following, exactly, the
instructions given by HP in so far as installation and connection, often the
order in which this is done can have a large impact. Stupid, I know, you'd
think in this day in age we'd all be past the finicky "connect your printer
precisely 17 seconds after clicking okay" crap.

Good luck,
Jason

P.S If you're not familiar with environment variables, you can add system or
user vars under the "Advanced" tab of your My Computer properties.
Alternatively you can "set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1" at a command
prompt & execute "regedit" from the same command prompt so it'll inherit the
variable.
