Reinstalling microsoft system management BIOS drivers

I recently used the Windows XP Recovery console to repair a problem with
Windows. Once we got everything back to "normal," the computer stopped
recognizing our modem, and in the Device Manager, it said that the Microsoft
System Management BIOS drivers were missing or corrupted. I ran the
troubleshooter, and it recommended that I uninstall and reinstall the
drivers. I did uninstall the drivers, but when I went to reinstall them, I
could not find them where the troubleshooter said (in the Add Hardware
wizard). The computer is still working, except the modem still isn't being
detected. If anyone knows how I can reinstall these drivers, please let me
know!

I would remove all unused hidden devices from the Device Manager and
retry. Also remove hidden items that are no longer in use.
Make sure that the modem is turned on before you start your computer
as well.
