Just a heads-up based on experience ;-)
If you have Zone Alarm Security Suite 7.x on your Windows XP Pro
system, don't just disable it but FULLY uninstall it prior to
attempting an upgrade... I learned the hard way.
1. Disabled ZASC & told it not to load on reboot
2. Rebooted
3. Proceeded with the Windows Vista Business upgrade
4. All went well until the last reboot... system hanged. No matter
what I did, the system locked up.
6. Starting in SAFE mode also failed.
7. Trying to re-install failed as the Vista DVD was looking for the
previous OS
8. I gave up, flushed the C: drive, reinstalled XP Pro then upgraded
to Vista Business. In the process, I lost all of the applications on
the C: drive (as all my working files were on the D: drive, it wasn't
that bad)
In retrospect, it wasn't that bad as I wound up with a better system
(no legacy stuff) and I did not lose any work files. However, for
those who only have a C: drive, this could be catastrophic.
Oh and by the way, I installed the 30-day trial of OneCare and cross
my fingers that ZA will release a Vista compatible version within that
timeframe. If not, then I will stick with OneCare and write-off the
ZASC license (or give it to a friend who is NOT using Vista)
