remote administration

I set a password for remote administration at my friend's PC,
whe are on the same LAN.
He's got Win 98 SE, I've got win XP.
Can i administer his PC?
Something doesn't work properly, please write the whole
way to success.

Are these XP Pro machines?

If they are XP Pro, I would create a user account, make it a member of the
Administrators group. Create the same account (same password, make sure a
password is set) on both computers. Login to both with this account and see
if the remote Computer Management connection works.
