Remote Desktop restart cannot re-establish remote connection

Posted: 02-10-2004, 12:21 AM
I have set up a remote desktop to access my laptop remotely from my
main PC. The remote desktop works fine.

To restart/reboot the laptop I open the command prompt and type
"shutdown -r". This works fine. I can also restart the laptop by
pressing ctrl+alt+end and selecting restart from the drop down menu.

However, when the laptop boots up I lose the remote connection. It
seems that it is not possible to remotely access the laptop from the
welcome/login screen.

I have to walk over to the laptop and login.

Unfortunately this is not practical as I plan to use the remote
desktop from a further distance.

The only solution I can think of is to "enable automatic logon"
(Microsoft support article 310584).

However there is a clear security risk with this solution. Thus
leaving my home network open to hackers.

Can anyone suggest a solution? Is article 310584 my only solution or
is there alternative software?

Mark

It should start accepting connection about 1 mins after system boot up, let
me know if that's not the case.

Thank you Huei Wang.

You were absolutely right. All I had to do was to wait for
approximately one minute and I could then remotely connect to the
laptop again.

Thanks!
