Remove 800 wireless networks QUICKLY

Posted: 01-26-2009, 09:26 PM

I use a laptop w/ vista business in my work truck. As i have travele
around for the last 7 months with it on its stand in the front seat i
has connected to over 800 wireless networks.
How do I remove these wireless networks QUICKLY (1 at time is going t
take hours!)
How do I prevent VISTA from automatically connecting to any network
without asking me 1st

on the second question:
This is on an XP SP3, but I believe it is similar on a Vista machine.

Open the Wireless network connection
in left pane select change advanced settings, to get to wireless network
connection properties
select Advanced in Preferred networks
uncheck the Automatically connect to non-preferred networks.

Sorry if the XP path doesn't work in the Vista.

Hi
Control Panel/Network and sharing Center, click on Manage Wireless Networks
(upper left side), clean up this list.
http://www.ezlan.net/vista/vista_wlist.jpg
Once you clean up set your connection to be secure with bogus WPA, it will
not connect any more cause it will not find a connection with this bogus
key.
If you want to connect click on the Connect to a Network and choose what
ever you like to connect to.
Periodically clean those that you chose connect to if you do not need them
any more.

ok, thanks for the posts

here's the problem with cleaning up the list. if i understan
correctly, i can only remove 1 at a time by selecting 1 from the lis
and clicking the remove button. there are over 800 of them. it take
20-40 seconds to remove 1.

that's 400 hrs!!!

is there a faster way

Hi
Go to Control panel/Administrative Tools/Services
Scroll down to the WLAN Autoconfig and Disable the Service.
Use the RegEdit to drill down in the registry to the key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Wlansvc\Inte rfaces
Delete the subkeys that are under it.
Restart the WLAN service.
As usual when One meddles with the Registry you have to know what you are
doing, and no one else is responsible to what can happen under your specific
system.
