REMOVE USER ACCOUNT

I'm really sick of Microsoft making each successive operating system more
controlling, so that it becomes increasingly difficult to do things the way
I want to, without being forced to follow the path that Microsoft in its
infinite wisdom <g> thinks I should follow.

Gripe out of the way, I made the mistake of using Windows Easy Transfer (WET
is a suitable acronym!) to transfer files and settings from an XP computer
to a new Vista computer. I now have 2 user accounts on the new computer,
and have to log on to each of them with a password.

I am the only person who uses the computer, and I want to have ONE user
account (me) that has full control over every aspect of the computer. How
can I get rid of the second user account (fully) and end up with one account
giving me full control?

Lindsay,

There should always be that additional Administrator account, though I
believe you're referring to two account in addition to that one. If
that's the case, then you use the User Accounts dialog in the control
panel to give administrative privilege to your "permanent" user
account. Once that is done, and you have move the "temporary" user's
documents, music, pictures, favorites, etc out of the profile, login
as the new permanent admin user and you can delete the old one (also
in the User Accounts dialog).

Looking at Control Panel > User Accounts, I see that there are 3 accounts --
Owner (Administrator), Lindsay Graham (Administrator) and Guest (Guest
account is off). The first is the one I want to keep, so I propose to
delete the other 2 (after moving the files that I want to keep) and then
rename Owner to Lindsay Graham. Can you see any problems in doing that?

When your Windows is first installed (whether done by yourself, or at
the "factory") there is an account created and it's called the
Administrator account. That one is hidden, and is the account I am
referring to.

In your case, you are just fine deleting the Lindsay Graham account
and renaming Owner to Lindsay Graham. The guest account can not (to my
knowledge) be deleted, but just keep it disabled like you have it now,
and you'll never encounter it in your normal routing.
