Repalcement CODEC for 3rd party software compatability question.

I'm hoping to use French v.2.0 from Instant Immersion, www.topics-ent.com.
The extremely helpful people there explained that my media error may be
remedied with the Ligos Indeo Codec 5.11 from
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Indeo_Codec.htm. I'd a concern that the
replacement might not work with all of the (rellay cool) Vista home premium
applications. I had tried to install regsvr32 ir50_32.dll per their
instructions, but it resulted in error Ox8000ffff. Would the Indeo CODEC
replace, or only suppliment the SigmaTel CODEC (ver.6.10.5337.0) from the
manufacturer? Please explain or refer me to where I may know beforehand
whether to expect any difference in performance.
