Resolution Notice

Posted: 10-21-2007, 02:42 AM
Hi all. I just got a new Dell and a new monitor. I keep getting a pop up
resolution notice saying that I should change to 1440 x 900, but that's not
an option in the settings. How can I do this? And if I can't, how can I
turn off the notice from popping up?

Thank you.

Try calling Dell support at 800-624-9896, at least if you're in the U.S. If
you're outside the U.S, I don't know how they can be reached
internationally, but there should be a number in your documentation. You
will have to go through a few minutes of voice tree hell, but it will still
be a lot faster than waiting for an email. The support is 24/7.

By installing a more advanced video adapter, one that can support the
monitor's native resolution.

Consult the monitor's manual or its manufacturer's web site to
determine if that is possible and, if it is, how to do so.

Hi coasterkim,

Did you get the new monitor from Dell at the same time? If so, check the
packaging for your monitor. You should find a driver disk which should be
installed. This contains a file which tells the system about the graphic
capabilities of your monitor. If this disk is missing, you will need to
contact Dell for a replacement. If the monitor is not from Dell, you should
still have a driver disk supplied with it, although you will have to contact
the monitor manufacturer and not Dell if it is still missing. If, however,
your graphics card is not capable of outputting the correct resolution and
you brought both your PC AND monitor from Dell then it is their
responsibility to ensure that both are compatible and that your monitor can
be run at its native resolution. In the first instance, check and re-check
your documentation in case you have missed anything.

coasterkim,

If you did not also get the monitor from dell with the system then get the
latest graphics driver for you new Dell from the your graphics chip
manufacturers Website. Both ATI and Nvidia have been updating their drivers
monthly recently so any disks that came with the system are way out of date.
