| Hi! I have a Win XP Pro workstation connecting to the Inet through a Linksys router. I have on my LAN a Linux server that I have an web app on. I can get to the web app if I provide the IP Address. The problem is, the IP address is not static. The web app requires the IP address or host name for its build. So ... I need to be able to resolve the Linux server to a host name. In the olden days, I could add host names and resolve their IPs in c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts. This file still exists in XP, but does not "appear" to work. This is very crucial to me to get resolved as soon as possible. I plan on rebuilding my app with the host name and migrating the app to another system next week (which will most certainly have a different IP). Your advice will be greatly appreciated. | Guest

| Why not simply assign a static IP to the LINUX box that runs your web server? Your right, dynamically assigned IP addresses make a hosts file useless. -- Al Please post *ALL* questions and replies to the news group for the mutual benefit of all of us...Unsolicited personal emails are *NOT* answered.
