restart printer is gone!

each time i restart my computer, the wizard comes up. the only way to make
my HP 812 printer work, is to delete the printer AND uninstall the printer
port. then on restart it goes thru the wizard and i choose the HP from the
list. if i power down, then i have no printer (yes, it's default. hell its
the ONLY thing in printers and faxes).
any advice?

ok, did the regedit but it denies me the delete. i found the various
folders and
tried delete but it won't let me?!?
