restore specific files from beta 2 vista-32 to RC-1 vista64

I used the Vista backup/restore service to do both a full system backup as
well as a files and settings backup when I was running the beta2 Vista 32 bit
version assuming that when I reformated and did the 64 bit install, I could
restore some of those files.
The restore center sees the backups but says that they are "not accessible".
Computer name, userID and domain membership all remains exactly the same as
it was when the laptop was running Vista B2 32 bit.

Anybody figured this out?
