Restoring programs from Norton Ghost.

Posted: 01-25-2009, 11:12 PM
I have WindowsXP pro & Norton Ghost 12.0.

I can restore individual files from Norton Ghost, but can I
restore a complete program from it?

Normally one needs the original program disk for a program
re-install but I don't have this anymore. I do have ghost
backups with the original program on it.

Please help.

You can restore the directory/folder that the program was installed to
originally but you will not be able to restore
the Registry Settings that made the program work.
If you have just deleted the Directory it will work but if you have used
Add&Remove and uninstalled the program it will
not work.

Probably not. Most modern windows-based applications use existing files,
put entries in the registry, etc. Therefore - the only way to ensure a
program works as intended is to use the application manufacturer's preferred
method of installation.

That's not to say there are not stand-alone applications out there where
such a thing is possible. There are. In fact, a lot of non-stand-alone
types can anctually be made into what is called 'portable apps' with certain
types of third party programs. However - these are not in the majority - by
far - in the windows world.

So - what specific program/application are you wanting to restore?

Thanks,

It is a program called "Slysoft AnyDVD". Is there anyway
to search the Norton12 backed-up registry to find the
relevant entries?
