Restoring WMI

Helloo. My WMI functionality is not working correctly.
When I click the Advanced tab of my LAN or dial-up
settings I receive an error message stating WMI
Information is corrupted. Windows suggest to correct this
to use System Restore to resore Windows to an earlier
time. I do not want to do this and have to re-load
programs, Workgroups, etc. Can I just re-install WMI from
somewhere? Any other fixes or suggestions? Thank you.

It's likely you're not going to be able to debug this.

If you think you can, start here:

First, is the WMI service running? Use Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, Services, then click on Windows Management
Instrumentation to see. It should have "Started" under the Status
column

Second, look at c:\windows\system32\wbem\Logs
there are a number of different logs. Look for ones that have
been modified recently, or have entries with recent dates and
report what they say.

Also: are you running xp, xp sp1, or xp sp2.

Cause
This behavior can occur if files in the %SystemRoot%
\System32\Wbem\Repository folder become corrupted. You
receive the error message repeatedly because Winmgmt.exe
polls the files every 30 to 60 seconds.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, delete and then re-create the
files in the %SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem\Repository
folder. To do this, follow these steps:
Click Start, and then right-click My Computer.
On the shortcut menu, click Manage.
In the left pane of the Computer Management console,
double-click Services and Applications.
Under Services and Applications, click Services.
In the right pane of the Computer Management console,
locate and then right-click Windows Management
Instrumentation.
On the shortcut menu, click Stop.
Start Windows Explorer, and then locate the %SystemRoot%
\System32\Wbem\Repository folder.
Delete all of the files in the %SystemRoot%\System32
\Wbem\Repository folder.
Restart the computer.

The files that were deleted are re-created when the
computer restarts.

NOTE: The Windows Management Instrumentation service
starts automatically when you restart the computer.
