Resume from standby problem

Hi,

I have a Samsung 22" SyncMaster 225BW LCD monitor and an EVGA 7900 ko gt
video card.
I have a fresh copy of Vista 64 bit home premium installed with the latest
updates.
When my computer resumes from standby, the monitor refresh rate goes nuts.
I can't make out anything on the screen and upon resetting the box, Vista
boots up with the screwed up refresh rate.
I'm trying to find a "vga" mode to boot into, but the troubleshooting boot
menu does not offer it as an option.

The only way I've been able to fix this is to roll back my system using
system restore, then changing my resolution to 1024 x 768 and then allowing
windows update to re-install it's previous update.

Using safe mode and setting my resolution to a lower quality does not seem
to help. On re-boot, the system resumes it's screwy refresh rate.

I've also experimented with the latest Nvidia drivers with the same result
on resume from standby.

Any suggestions?
Can anyone tell me how to get the system to use vga mode on boot?

Since your monitor is a 16:10 aspect ratio monitor with a native resolution
of 1680x1050 why are you trying to send it 4:3 aspect ratio 1024x768?
You should have the best results with drivers from the NVIDIA Website since
they are normally more up to date then the ones from WinUpdate.

Perhaps I should clarify my situation.....

My monitor defaults to 1680 x 1050 resolution, sweet... I have no problem
with that and I should've stated that first.
When my system goes for a nap it wakes up very cranky with a whacked out
refresh rate.
I cannot see anything and I have to reset the system and go into safe mode.
The only way to fix the problem is to do a system restore to an earlier
time, set my resolution to 1024 x 768, allow any auto updates to occur and
THEN set my resolution back to 1680 x 1050.
And of course then I'm back to square one.
Go for nap, wake up cranky....
btw, do you have any answers to my questions?

You have a Nvidia video card, right? It is an issue with their crap Vista
drivers. Solution for now is to disable sleep mode on your monitor. I get
the same issue in Vista with Nvidia 7900GT but not on XP with same card.

Yes, I have the Nvidia card. I have disabled sleep and my screen saver as
both these modes cause my issue.
I guess I'll just keep using XP until they get better drivers.
