retrieving files from deleted user account?

Posted: 02-26-2004, 02:21 PM
My user account on a PC with XP Home was deleted. I was one of two Administrator; the other Administrator deleted my stuff. I don't believe the user who deleted my account opted to save my files to their desktop. I suspect those files disappeared with my account. Question is, are any of those files potentially retrievable? I've heard that Norton "Systemworks" might be one way of reassembling them. The account deletion took place in early December of '03. I know that the single 40GB hard drive has been defragged once and two small programs have been installed by the remaining adminstrator since my account was deleted. I now (finally) have possession of the computer again. Is there any hope of pulling these files back from oblivion?

retrieving files from deleted user account?

The only thing I can think of is that any file deleted
within the Microsoft OS is not really deleted. It simply
renamed and hidden within the recycle bin until a long
ways down the line, it eventually becomes overwritten. I
use a program called search and recover by iolo. It does
wonders for mistakenly deleted files.

If you want, try the trial but go ahead and get the
system mechanic as its way cooler and so powerful with
all the things it can do.

If the files were not backed up when the account was deleted, you'll need 3rd party software. And of course, the less you use the computer in the meantime, the more likely you are to recover the files intact. I use File Saver.
