Rip Music to mp3 format

Posted: 11-09-2007, 02:51 PM
Hi

Is there a version of WMP that includes the ability to rip music to the mp3
format?

If not, I presume I need to purchase a plug-in.

Help!

Setting options for ripping CDs
You can set the following options by using the Rip Music tab:

Change the storage location for CD tracks.
Specify whether tracks are ripped to your computer in Windows Media Audio or
MP3 format.
Protect ripped tracks from illegal distribution, copying, and sharing.
Specify the sound quality of music copied in the Windows Media Audio format.

To access the Rip Music tab
On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Rip Music tab.
Click the small down arrow to select MP3.

Hi

Thanks for your response but I know how to rip music - I asked if there was
a version of WMP that had mp3 as an option. My version 10 doesn't.

It is very likely that the format of the audio CD you inserted is not
supported to be ripped to MP3 format. Version 10 does support various
formats, try a different music disk. Or, you can try a converter or another
ripper to do it. Repost with result.

Let me add one more comment. I'm not sure of what you are trying to do.
Are you trying to rip from an MP3 CD to your harddrive? If you are, that
will not work using WMP. You rip "tracks" not MP3 files. You can burn,
copy and paste, drag and drop, etc. from CD to harddrive.

HI

As I said before I do know how to rip music from CDs. What I am saying is
that my WMP Version 10 does not have an option to rip to the mp3 format.

EricG, Try Windows Media Player 11. I use this version and set it to copy [
under ripping options ] to mp3's from the ripping options settings. Hope this
helps.
