Rip Speed in Media Player

Posted: 04-09-2006, 02:25 PM
When I rip a CD to MP3 format on my work PC (XP), it rips a complete CD in
about 3 minutes (Media Player 10). When I rip the same CD at home it only
rips at the play speed of the CD.
I am running the same version of MP at home. Admittedly, my home PC is not
as fast as my work PC, and has less RAM, but it seems that I may still be
missing an option. Is there any way to reduce the rip speed. I do not want to
listen to the CD while it rips.
Thanks

MP3 encoding is dependent on the processor speed. For instance, my old 400MHz
K6-3 system managed a measly 3.5x. My current system, an Athlon 64 X2 3800+
does 25x. Listening to the CD while it rips definitely slows it down, as does
using "error correction".

That sounds lke you are set to rip the CD in Analog mode at home under WMP's
Tools:Optionsevices:<cd drive>:Properties... switching to digital mode
should speed this up.
