rpint driver reinstalls on boot

Recently upgraded to WinXP Pro on Dell Dimension (866MHz
PIII). Installed a WinXP printer driver obtained from
Lexmark web site for Lexmark X52 printer connecter via
parallel port. However, whenever machine is rebooted,
WinXP detects a "new" printer and installs the inferior
driver from the WinXP package, rendering the Lexmark
driver inoperative. Does not seem to be a way to suppress
this constant reinstallation of printer driver or
redirect the installation to the preferred driver.
