Samsung CD RW/DVD

I'm having an ongoing problem with my RW/DVD (Samsung SM-
308B). It will read the cd when I install XP. But now
it only reads audio cd's and DVD's. Occasionally it will
read a data cd but very intermitently. Is this a
hardware problem, an XP problem or something else?
