Sandisk U3 Errors 5536

Posted: 08-29-2006, 02:23 PM
The absence of working drivers for sandisk u3 usb keys is causing vista to
loose the dvd drive, as its getting confused between the u3 features of the
usb drive and the "real" cd/dvd drive installed. The regular partitions of
the usb storage still work though, but only way to get back the dvd drive is
to uninstall the usb key.

ReadyBoost isn't relevant to this issue.

I'll test it out with my Memorex Mini TravelDrive U3 when I get 5536 on.

This is what I know but also as far as I've got...
1: You need to have launchpad intaller set to autostart
2: You have to remove password protection (at least while you are doing this)
3: Plug the drive in, launchpad will try to run, popup informing you that
launchpad is not compatible and option to check for update.
4: Choose yes, IE launches and you are informed that a software update to
launchpad is available. To upgrade click on the "Install Launchpad" icon.

This is where I am unable to move forward...
I click on the icon to install, I get a popup telling me I must have
administrator rights to run the app & that I "do not appear to have" said
rights at this time. I have tried a number of things, turning off the admin
stuff in Vista didn't help in the BetaII build and I don't imagine it will be
any different in my current build (5536 Pre-RC1). Even logged in as the
administrator in the last build.
This time I looked at the source code of the U3 Launchpad Installer Webpage
and found the following
codebase="http://u3.sandisk.com/download/apps/LPInstaller.CAB#version=1,0,0,12"
&
"http://u3.sandisk.com/download/apps/LPInstaller.exe"
Obviously the fist link got me a cab file that didn't help me any and the
2nd link got me the launchpad installer. I took the installer to an xp
machine, ran it, it installed on my micro; went back to Vista.....same thing.
Looks like I installed the same version I already had.
If anyone gets this to work please let me know.

U3 is not supported at this time, even with all of the updates. Maybe by mid
october it will be fixed. for now, use XP
