Scanner install problems Brother MFC-210C

Posted: 11-23-2008, 04:39 AM

I tried to install two different printer/scanners - an HP F4140, and
Brother MFC-210C, and have had the same issue with both of them. In bot
cases, I downloaded the latest drivers from the HP and Brother websites
followed the instructions for installation, and on both of them th
printer would work properly, but I would get an error message sayin
that the driver couldn't communicate with the scanner

They both work fine with my husband's Vista Home x32 desktop, and hi
Windows XP laptop, but not with my Vista Ultimate x64 laptop

Any suggestions

(I'm more interested in getting the Brother scanner working, caus
that's the one I have on the road with me, and I need it for job relate
stuff.

You need to get specific 64 bit drivers for both of these, and if they use
Twain, it's unlikely you'll get them to work with 64 bit. The Twain Group
(that developed the process years ago) does not plan any support for 64 bit
operating systems. Occasionally they will work, but only occasionally. If
you need a scanner that does work in 64 bit, try the Canon LiDE200. It
works very nicely on my Vista Ultimate 64 bit desktop, I had to replace a
very nice and still almost new Lide80 scanner, but thankfully I do have
other PCs running 32 bit Vista that can use it. Newer scanners use WIA and
that process is compatible with 64 bit operating systems.
