Scanner not recognized by computer

I had to run a restore to a specified date. I have an HP
Pavilion 511n, HP pavilion mx703 moniter- and an HP
scanjet 3500c. Somewhere in the restore some of the DLL
files must have dropped. I had to download drivers for my
printer (hp 6122 deskjet) for my Hp camera and for the
scanner. All of the hardware software was recognized
except the scanner. I have tried to uninstall software,
unplugged the scanner, rebooted, reinstalled software. It
still will not recognize the scanner. Checking files and
the scanner is there, try to scan computer tells me
scanner is not attached. Rechecked the hookups and checked
the software all there. Does anyone know of anything else
I can try that will not require an IT degree to understand.
