Do you get ANY errors? Or does it just *fade away*....
Have you taken a look at the Event Viewer to see if an error gets logged
internally - that maybe doesn't get sent to the screen?

Get it to a point where it works, and note the time on your PC, then use the
scanner. Then close out of the scanner application, and then go back in. If
it still works, note the time, again... (we're just trying to get this
failure to happen and associate it with the time).

Then click Start, click Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance, or
Administrative Tools, and then double-click Event Viewer, and click on
Application.

You are looking for a events AFTER the time you know it worked.... there
may be many...(most are harmless, and the system simply restarts whatever
failed)... that is why noting the time it WORKED is important....

You can right-click on any of those events, and gather (sometimes) useful
information about what happened.

This should AT LEAST give you the program/driver that is having the
*issues*. And maybe even more info than that.

Good luck,

scanner problems

I've had my computer for about a year and a half. Over
this time period my scanner periodically decides not to
work. It goes thru the process of scanning, but all I get
is a white screen when it's done. I've tried un/ri the
drivers, un/ri the sw for the scanner. I've tried using
win xp sw to scan it, all gives me the same results. I've
fixed it before, just by unplugging/replugging the usb
port in. It is an Umax Astra 3400, it came with my Dell
computer. I would so appreciate if someone could help, I
use my scanner a lot for school purposes- majoring in
Elementary Education- doing lots on the computer!
Thanks in advance-
Jennifer

You gave no useful information (computer specs; make/model of scanner), so
no one will be able to assist you.

Can you tell a little more about what the scanner doesn't do
and what it does.

I have installed an HP 5200c on a networked XP box. The
scanner works fine as long as I am logged in--of course I
have ADMIN rights. If anyone else logs into the
machine/domain then the scanner will not work. Where do I
go to give users the rights to access the scanner?
