Screen Resolution After Sleep mode

Posted: 05-30-2007, 12:12 AM
Hey all I'm having a problem that i just can't figure out why and how to fix
it!
My current screen resolution is 1440x900, I put my computer to sleep, shut
the lid, then I open the lid and eveything is good still 1440x900 then bam!
the screen flickers and it goes to 1024x768! wats the deal???

also i experience flickering every so often here and there in Vista which i
don't like, my laptop is a dual boot with Linux Ubuntu and none of this
happens in Ubuntu.......so why do i keep insisting on using Windows!! haha
anyways any help would be greatly appreciated, i'm truly stumped!!

Thanks, Alain

S15_88,

Symptoms such as you are experiencing with your graphics performance usually
isn't a Vista issue. Most likely it's a problem with the video card (chip)
drivers. You should check whether your graphics card/chip has updated
drivers available from the manufacturer of your computer (Dell, Compaq,
eMachine, etc.), or from the manufacturer of your graphics card/chip. As you
likely know, compatible drivers for Vista have been improving with time.
That's all I can say without knowing more about your system.

In addition, you can check whether Vista has any issues by:

Checking a Vista report for specific errors and corrective measures to
take: Click on Start (icon) and select All Programs. Then, select
Maintenance > Problem Reports and Solutions. When that report opens, select
from among the Tasks on the left margin and elsewhere. Peruse the report and
look for any specific information about what caused your problem (or other
problems while you're at it). If you get some insight from the report, take
the corrective action suggested in the report. Just something to try, since
Vista logs errors and hopefully it will in this case, if there are any. Let
us know whether any of this is useful.

One possible solution I stumbled upon -- in the registry there are several
"Bags" that contain various screen resolutions. Modifying these items seems
to have fixed the problem for me, although I have no idea why nor do I know
for sure that these settings are related. But it's something to try.

Same problem here on a Dell Inspiron E1505 running Vista.

Dell support says "There is not a setting that can be set so that the
resolution is the same as it was before you put the system in sleep mode."
According to them, the device is working correctly.

In other words, they don't know what to do with it, either.
