Screen Saver Permissions

Posted: 12-20-2003, 07:29 PM
We just setup a company wide screen saver for all of our
employees. We want to make it so that they cannot change
the screen saver. How would I go about doing that? I know
it has something to do either with permissions or
something in the registry. Thanks.

Hi

You should download this spread sheet:

Windows XP Professional Resource Kit/Group Policy Object Settings
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=4938

under
User Configuration
Control Panel\Display

you will find the following setting:

Hide Screen Saver tab

Explanation for "Hide Screen Saver tab":

Removes the Screen Saver tab from Display in Control Panel.

This policy prevents users from using Control Panel to add, configure, or
change the screen saver on the computer.

In registry, this is the value name NoDispScrSavPage set to 1 (REG_DWORD) under

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\System

send email to Area27nm@comcast.net and Monday, 22 December, I'll reply with the step by step instructions to do what you ask. I'm at home and don't have Win2K or XP Pro.

You can find it yourself...Start Button...Run...Type in GpEdit.msc

When in GpEdit...Left Frame...Administration Management...Control...Desktop. Something to this effect. There are 5 properties you can modify; locking down the screen saver, password protection, screen saver file, time delay, and hide it from desktop.
