SD cards and music

I have a desktop unit with Windows XP Home Edition and use a card reader
into a USP slot to view pictures from my digital camera. Can I use this set
up to put music on to an SD card. If so, I will be really grateful if
anyone can please tell me how to do this - I am not a computer whizz so
simple instructions will be appreciated. Also, I have a new laptop with
Windows Vista Home Premium and its own SD slot - will it be same procedure to
put music on an SD card with this machine.
