Search Companion

Posted: 11-02-2003, 05:18 AM
Recently, when I open My Computer and open My Documents
in XP, the folder opens but goes to the search companion.
I then have to click on search to get my files to appear.
I haven't any idea how this happened but it's beggining
to bug the crap out of me. How can I change this back so
that it opens the folder up.It also happens when I open
Local Disc and click on any folder in there.

Is there a way to disable the Windows XP search companion
without messing with the registry?

Yes, just click on it and choose "Turn off the animated character".

Thanks, Alex, but it isn't the animated character, it is
the search window. It is a known problem with XP and
Microsoft says I need to mess with the registry to fix
it. I would rather disable the program if possible. Any
suggestions?

TweakUI for Windows XP,
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/p.../powertoys.asp You'll find this
setting in the Explorer section. You can turn off the Search Companion for
Explorer and Internet Explorer.

When I open up my folders, it does not matter what kind
of folder it is, it opens as search and does not open it.
How do I fix this? It could be a folder in MY COMPUTER,
or DESKTOP. As long as it shows a folder for the icon
anywere in my computer it searches and does not open, I
have to right click to open. I have tryed the mouse and
it is fine, and also folder options. When I right click
on the folder, the box says: search then open and then
explore and the search is bold. HELP PLEASE. It is
driving me crazy!!!!!!
Thank you,

Merria
