Search Companion Error When You Search Files and Folders

We have the symptoms, have tried 5 resolutions, but to no
avail. Please help.
1.Install Windows XP SP 1
2.Download and install the Hotfix
3.Install Srchasst. inf.
4.Restored system (3)
5.Typed SFC Scannow - System File Checker Utility
