Second hard drive problem

Posted: 09-20-2003, 05:08 PM
I just bought Seagate 80G IDE harddrive for my compaq
presario 5000 as additional storage. I installed it as the
slave and booted up with no problems. I moved "My
Documents" to the new drive. I restarted and the black xp
pro screen starts with the lil bar and then the computer
restarts. This happens in all safe modes. I have unhooked
the new drive and the same thing happens. I noticed that I
did not have the jumper settings on the new drive
installed correctly. I fixed them but the same thing is
occuring. I changed the jumper setting on the old drive (a
quantum 30G)
Any suggestions

What you may need to do. Make sure that the new hard
drive you got is set as a slave drive and that your old
one is the Master drive to do this you must switch around
the jumpers.

Be sure your main drive has it's jumper pins set to Master (It may presently
be set to Single or Primary mode). And for the second drive, you must set
the jumper pins to Slave mode.

good luck,

>Call WD tech service. I have an original 120GB drive and
put a 200 gb drive in. Same problem as you. Sol'n, which
is quick, involves formatting the new drive and a couple
of other things that I forget. WD fixed me up in about 5
minutes.
