Default Security Center - "check your antivirus software status"

My home PC is preloaded with Windows Vista Home Basic edition (32-bit) and
has AVG Antivirus Free v7.5.485 installed. I am puzzled by the recent pop-up
message after the startup of my PC. It is reported that "AVG Antivirus is
turned off. Click here to fix the notification", although the AVG icon has
well displayed on the notification area (system tray). Meanwhile, as
suggested by a member of the Discussion Group, I tried "winmgmt
/verifyrepository" at the command prompt with a positive result "WMI
repository is consistent". Appreciate if any suggestion will be given to
improve the adverse condition.

You could try this:

Right-click Command Prompt, and Run as Administrator. Type (or Copy and
Paste) the following commands, pressing Enter after each one:

net stop winmgmt
cd %windir%\system32\wbem
ren repository repository.old
net start winmgmt

This will rebuild the Repository, and by extension, rebuild the Vista
Security Center. You may have to restart your computer to see a change.

It can't hurt to try.

Hi, Dean-Dean

Thank you for your prompt response.

I have tried the command prompts and regret that they do not work on my home
PC. It may be a problem on the Vista Security Center to detect the antivirus
software status. As a result, I temporarily disable the Security Center to
monitor my antivirus because of the annoyance arising from a false alarm on
each startup. Hopefully, an update will automatically be made available from
Microsoft.

Regards.

Default Re: Security Center - "check your antivirus software status"

I have just had the same problem which appeared after thev daily Vista update
check - Windows Security Centre saying no anti virus and Defender turned off.

I found a fix for the repository on the Kaspersky forum which involves
manually deleting it and allowing it to rebuild.

You first have to switch off the Windows Management Instrumentation which
takes some finding.

Anyway check
http://forum.kaspersky.com/index.php...ecurity+center

Apparently its a common problem with Vista and all anti-virus systems.
