Default Security center won't go away!

How do I get my security center icon to go away? Its red all the time, since
I can't get an anti-virus program to run.

1) i turned off the universal account control. A terrible feature.
2) any recs on a functional anti-virus program?

There are 2 free antivirus for Vista users:

CA eTrust AV
https://www.my-etrust.com/SubscriptC...855&lang=en-US

and TrendMicro PC-cillin
https://www.trendbeta.com/index.php?get=80

You can find a list of working/not working AV with Vista here:

Avast anti virus works with Vista now and it's free.

But I would also consider using one of the free AV programs others have
mentioned here. I'm using Avast home edition 4.7 with good results.
