Seeing alot of bugs w/ Vista RTM

Posted: 11-21-2006, 07:04 PM
I'm in CPP, so I can't get a copy of this release.
After reviewing this newsgroup, & the hardware devices newsgroup, I'm seeing
alot of installation problems.

So, maybe its just as good that the CPP's aren't allowed to get this copy.
I hope by the time it is commercially released, these problems will have
been resolved....

When you look carefully you will realize that the most problems occur with
hardware. That's not Vistas nor MS fault. For hardware issues you have to
contact your hardware vendor if they will support Vista and issue drivers in
the next future. If you run Vista on supported hardware you will notice that
there is no better or bad like with XP.

Indeed there will be some Hotfixes released until Vista finally hit the
stores but like with every other MS system via Windows Update. Vista is RTM,
that means it will be burnt onto installation media like it is now. No
changes, nor more or other drivers.

Maybe so about the hardware issues, however, alot of the devices ran fine
under RC2 & RC1.
Like Nvidia drivers... USB devices....

To be fair to MS most of the problems i've found is with third party apps,.
Personally i think it's a good thing they've released it this way to give
the other companies a chance to get their software/drivers working prior to
a public release.
Also my Nvidia graphics card and my Hauppauge HVR-900 are working great.

Vista RTM is working fine for me. I've haven't been able to find much wrong.
Very nice, extremely fast compared to RC2... impressive. It really looks
like a quality product now.

Yes, my feeling is Vista RTM is well below the standard of XP and 2000
were at RTM state... Very poor. I had very high expectations when I saw
the massive progress made between Beta 2 and RC1, in such a short
timescale, and I really thought, for a while that Microsoft could pull it
off. However, I now think that Vista SP1 is where most people will want
to be picking Vista up.. :-(

Both of my testbed systems are well-upto spec, 1GB and 2GB, and "less than
6 month old" hardware, with quality components (Intel E6600, Asus P5B,
Geforce GPU etc.)

Even something like a corrupt filesystem on a USB flash card is enough to
crash Windows explorer into a state, where "End Process Tree" won't even
resurect it, requring a reboot. These sort of silly problems have plagued
Windows for years, and are STILL not resolved. I can even Bluescreen one
system, on request, with no 3rd party software installed, a totally clean
install!!!

The closest Microsoft have ever go to the perfect OS, is still Windows XP
x64... Considering taking Vista off and reverting back to that, at least
until Jan, and perhaps even until SP1...

Seems there was far to much pressure for an October release, and not
enough pressure on Quality :-(
