selective sounds

hi, using
Dell Dimension 455
768 RA
Pentium 2.0 Gi

I am running a Delta 44 soundcard which is working fine for my audion program application, Cubase SX. My main problem is that I do not get any sounds through my Media Player, or through the Internet. In device properties, it is stated that my device is working properly, but when I go to sounds and audio playback, I have no default playback or recording. I have tried all the troubleshooting and seem to be at a standstill.

P.S. I have had this soundcard working in conjunction with said programs and configuration before, now that I have formatted computer and reinstalled, things are not working
