Default Seperate User Profiles

I have sent seperate user profiles for my family. I gave my wife the same
permissions and I have as adminstrator, however we have found that she can
not do anything such as download & install programs unless she is logged in
as adminstrator. Also whenever she does instal something to her profile I
also havee it on mine even if I don't want it and when I delete it from mine
it effects hers... and she is the one that wants/needs it. Can we change it
to make vista more user friendly. If not what is the use of this feature if
it can't utilized??
Email can''t be sent because....

If the app doesn't offer something like "Install for all users" (you
may have to go Custom to see this) then chances are the installer is
not aware of user profiles.

If set to "Install for all users" (or if that is chosen on your behalf
as the default for "Express' install) then the All Users profile is
populated, so that all users can use the app.

If not set to "Install for all users" (or if that is chosen on your
behalf as the default for "Express' install) then only the user's
profile is populated, so that other users can't use the app.

Given that users who complain that others can use their apps are
prolly more tech-savvy than those who complain they can't use the app
(from the "wrong" user account), you can see why vendors will prolly
default to installing for all users, even if they are NT-aware.

The pain comes when you want to:
- specify which users can use which apps
- specify which apps new user accounts can use

There's no fix for this, because (even after 5+ years of ramming user
accounts down our throats with XP) MS *still* hasen't written this
functionality, without which IMO user accounts are useless for us
non-sysadmin types who don't like manually binding and editing hives
in Regedit, copying shortcuts between Start Menus, etc.

So I concur with your conclusions. For us outside the pro-IT sector,
the user account systems is not yet fully-assed.
