Service needed for internet access - which ones *need* the internet and which ones don't.

Am trying out ZoneAlarm as a firewall and many times I am asked if xxxxx
program can access the internet, local network, act as server etc.
Is there a way I can know which services/apps really need the net and
which ones don't but seem to want to.
Sometimes explorer.exe want to and I say "no" and all seems okay. Why
would Windows Explorer want internet access (and no, I have not entered
a URL!) when all I am doing is listing files in My Documents.
