Robert;
Once you are sure you will keep Windows XP Service Pack 1.
The files may be hidden, to show the file:
Go to C:\WINDOWS
Click the top TOOLS, click FOLDER OPTIONS, click VIEW
Check the radio button. "Show hidden files and folders"
Click OK and you should now see more files.

Go to C:\WINDOWS and delete "$NTServicePackUinistall$" about 240 mb.
Then go to Add/Remove Programs.
Click Service Pack 1, there will be an error since you just deleted
the file.
Click YES to delete the shortcut.

Use similar procedure to delete similar files for the updates.

If you mean it's on a drive with other partitions and
data, you will need a 3rd party program like Partition
Magic.ect;...Good luck.

I've just downloaded the Microsoft Service Pack 1, and am
currently installing it. My system hasn't frozen, but
the setup wizard is telling me that, "running processes
after install."

Can anyone offer advice on how I should proceed?

Thank you,

I have three different removable drives that I use - W98,
W2K and XP. I haven't used my XP drive for a couple of
months so I found it needed 47 updates. I started with
SP1. After it installed my dail connection doesn't seem to
work. It connects, but I get no activity and doesn't seem
to connect to the server.
I am running McAfee anti-virus and firewall, both of which
were turned off during the download/installation. I also
have the firewall off during connection, thinking it might
not be allowing something to access the Internet.
Anybody have any ideas.
Thanks
Wes

First of all, I have found that it is not wise to
download every single update that Windows claims you
need. Sometimes you don't need half the crap that they
stick in those updates. Just remember that...
You might have downloaded the wrong Serice Pack. Either
you already had SP1 or (most likely) the SP1 that you
downloaded is conflicting with your first SP1a. If so,
try to restore your system using System Restore.
But, McAfee firewall and anti-virus are very stubborn
programs. I have them both and whenever I disable them, I
seem to have Internet troubles. Simply turning them on
might help.

you could try this kb article...scroll down to the
network and communication part.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;324722

You also might try new drivers for your modem,or if that
don't work,reinstall ISP...Good luck.

When I enter the command "SFC /SCANNOW" to check the
windows system files I recive the message " Files that
are required for Windows to run properly must be copied
to the DLL Cache. Insert your Windows XP Professional
Service Pack 1 CD now." I don't have service pack 1 on cd
I downloaded it.
SFC /SCANNOW will not run without the cd.
What sould I do.
