Setting Up a Wireless Network with a Vista Laptop and an XP Deskto

Posted: 05-23-2007, 04:39 PM
I just recently purchased a Laptop with Vista Home Premium on it. I have
never setup a network and would like to so I can access files and the printer
connected to the desktop. I am using a 2Wire modem/router. Both are able to
connect to the internet, but I am unsure of how to setup a network where I
can see both computers. I need to know what to do on both machines. Any
help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If both computers have Internet service, then the wireless issue is irrelevant.
Concentrate now on the XP - Vista issue.

Setting the Network Location Type to Private, on the Vista computer, is a key
step here. Also, make sure that NetBT is explicitly Enabled, and both computers
are in the same workgroup. And check the firewall on the XP computer.
