Setup Cannot continue HELP!

Posted: 09-18-2003, 07:19 PM
I get this when I try to to either upgrade or try clean
install:

Windows XP Professional Setup Setup was unable to verify
drive C:. Your computer may not have enough memory to
examine the drives, or your windows XP CD may contain some
corrupted files

I use disks I know are not corrupted and get this message
on 2 different PCs.

Does anyone know how I can fix this? Or do I have faulty
hardware?
..

This is driving me nuts, The PC runs fine without any
problems until I try to install!!!!!!!!!!

Not sure about others here but that information isn't
enough to help to try to find a solution. We need more
information such as. Is there an Operating System that
you are installing over or are you booting from the CD for
the install. What PC's are they and what are some of the
details about them (memory, CPU, HDD etc). Are you using
the same CD on both PC's that fail or different CD's and
are they legitimate copies. Check the CD to make sure
they are very clean and no scratches.

Okay I see

512MB RAM
60GB HDD
1.67 GHZ AMD Athlon XP
MB NFORCE2 A7N8X DELUXE ASUS RTL

I have XP Home running on it just now. I used to have
win98 and XP Pro running on it before then had to wipe the
disk. Couldn't reinstall either and so used sys recovery
disk that came with PC. this worked but PC kept rebooting
bizarrely. The MB was definitely a bit fried so I got the
one above. Now it works fine but it freezes up if I use a
Win98 boot disk on menu screen (tried more than one).
Gives original posted message for XP Pro setup - the disks
are fine - I have more than one and have used them since
then on friends PCs.

I hope this is enough.
