share access

Hi I have a problem that is driving me nuts!

Basically I am running xp pro with my "simple file sharing turned off"
I also disable the guest account. BUT people in my network can still
browse to my computer and view my "schedule task folder".

Also when I try to set up a share folder "testShare" and set the
permession so that "everyone" is deleted, people on my network can
easily browse to my computer with no prompt for the password or
username. PLEASE help!

thanks in advance.

Is this on a domain?
Are they using a username/password on their machine that
matches a username/password on your machine?

what is the difference between simple and standard file
sharing and where do you have the option to turn one on
or off?

Thanks
Jim

Hi Jim:

To turn of simple file sharing: open any folder. Go to tools->folder
option->View

go all the way down and uncheck the simple file sharing mode.
Note: i believe that turning off this function permanently is only
possible in xp pro.

Simple file sharing, from what I know, allows you to share files but
you cannot link an account with a passwrod and username, so that
anyone on you network can gain access to the share (not a good idea).
Turn it off and share a folder, but remmemeber to go into permession
and delete "everyone" and then add a user with certain privelge.
