shared printer loses network jobs, still prints locally

hey all,

i have an hp laserjet connected to the lpt1 port on a
winxp pro machine (with current updates, sp's).

it's shared and i'm attempting to print to it (via samba).

i can print a test page locally, or pretty much print
anything locally. job flashes thru spooler and out it
comes.

print jobs sent remotely show up in the queue,
titled "Remote Downlevel Document" and hang there, stuck
at 64kb. their owner is Guest.

data is never physically sent to printer. there is
nothing in the event logs - neither an error nor a print
event. (??)

i can't seem to cancel/delete those jobs, either - even
after restarting the print spooler.

any ideas? thanx!
