Shell Hidden Window

Posted: 02-05-2006, 07:10 PM
For a split second when Win XP HE turns off I see a flash of a message
window that, over time, I've been able to partially decipher. I think it
says ""Shell Hidden Window" and involves Music Match that came with my Dell
machine. (Do I REALLY need that? Doesn't Windows Media Player do the same
thing? That's what I've been using whenever I need to listen to something.)

Anyway. the research I've been able to do so far points to a line entry on
the configuration statement (or whatever it's called); mimboot.exe. The
instructions I read on some guru thread said to run MSCONFIG and simply
uncheck the entry. Simple enough. However, when the machine reboots I get a
message telling me the machine is booting in "selective Startup" and
advising me to undo what I did, put it back into Normal Startup, and
restart.

I'm in running in a circle. Would someone please show me the way out.

It is entirely up to you, but I would just uninstall the piece of crap and
use Windows Media Player when you feel the need.

[[MusicMatch have released a further update that successfully resolves this
issue and it may be applied by following the MusicMatch Technical Support

That error message window seems to be caused by Musicmatch Jukebox.
You do not need MusicMatch running at startup. You can always start the apps
manually.

Remove these two entries...
C:\Program Files\MUSICMATCH\MUSICMATCH Jukebox\mm_tray.exe
C:\Program Files\MUSICMATCH\MUSICMATCH Jukebox\mimboot.exe

from...
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run
---

mm_tray.exe is the tray bar process for MusicMatch Jukebox which organizes
and plays music media such as MP3s. It gives the user easy access to the
MusicMatch Jukebox application and settings. This is a non-essential
process.

mimboot.exe is a process associated with Musicmatch Jukebox. The process
makes sure that Musicmatch is launched when starting up the system.

Hope this helps. Let us know.
