shockwave install problems

Posted: 07-23-2004, 01:03 PM
Whenever i try to install Macromedia Shockwave player
(latest version) to my XP system, it hangs and freezes at
the 1% download on the progress bar. What is preventing
it from downloading?? I have tried almost everything.
What possible program or plug-in or setting is preventing
it from loading fully?? HELP!!

If you are having trouble installing Shockwave Player or if installation does
not begin automatically, download the standalone installer.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I've already tried the
standalone version. No luck.

Perhaps there's something stopping it, only a guess

I use AVG virus checker daily, I use Spy Bot Ad Destroyer,
I use Adaware, and I have a disk cleanup utility. Yes, I
have tried running all of these prior to the install.
Still no luck. I have tons of disk space and available
memory as well. One thing I did notice that has me
perplexed, is when I tried to install an update to my
browser (SP1 to IE6), it said it couldn't run it
because "A previous version has pending work requiring a
reboot. You need to restart your computer first to
complete that installation before running IE setup". I
have no idea what they are referring to, and of course
restarting the computer makes no difference.

Okay, couldn't help you with shockwave but perhaps these links will assist you
with WU.
If nothing helps, then I suggest you post to the WU NG and advise them of what
steps you're already undertaken and what OS you're using. Perhaps if this
problem is solved, maybe the shockwave problem with also resolve itself.

Kaylene:

Thanks for the help and suggestions. This is turning out
to be "the problem from hell!" I even called Dell (who I
got the computer from), and they suggested reinstalling
Windows XP Pro because there may have been some corruption
in the original setup that was preventing me from loading
Shockwave. I did that and still no go. They did say too
that known compatability problems exist between some
software programs and Macromedia. I have some 50 programs
loaded to my XP system, so who knows? Trying to find
which one is causing the interference could be like
finding a needle in a haystack! I could not post the
problem to Microsoft direct because my machine was
registered as an oem product, which they don't allow
postings for. All i can do is stick to this listserv
option and hope somebody comes up with an answer.

Mike,

I am experiencing the same problem. Have you had any luck resolving the conflict?
