short-cuts

My short-cuts have disappeared. When I start-up my
computer all of my short-cuts are gone. I have to go to
start to retrieve my programs. What do you think I did to
create this?

I've ran Spybot, Ad-aware, Norton and TrendMicro and
everything seems to come up clean.

I would appear that I have some 'service' that is hosed
and just goobles all the available memory. The one
instance of SVCHOST.exe is consuming nearly 2 Gig of
memory by itself.

I don't know how to find what the specific service running
under the SVCHOST.exe is.

Ideas?
