Shortcuts

All of my system shortcuts in the startup menu and some
of the icons on the desktop quit working. In the Event
viewer there are errors saying the acpi bios is
attempting to read from an illegal IO address. How can I
fix this. I started after my daughter downloaded
something off the internet. Thanks

Hey Angel,

How r u creating the shortcut?

I don't know if theres a better way but if you go into my computer, right
click on the drive, select create shortcut, you get a message saying it cant
create one there do you want to create one on the desktop, say yes, then
drag the desktop icon to the quick launch area. Works for me.

If you right click the icon in the quick launch area and select properties,
what does it show for the target, should show the root directory eg c:\ for
the c: drive

Open Control Panel > Add/Remove programs and uninstall the Microsoft
WindowsUpdate hotfix "821557"

Also see:

Not Work

This solution was given to me by

Ramesh [MS-MVP]

It certainly worded for me as I had exactly the same problem
