SigmaTel High Definition Audio Codec

Posted: 09-08-2006, 06:00 PM
Hello! Possible bug follows:

I just recently installed RC1 and it was pretty smooth--except for the
sound. While it runs mostly out of the box and I can not record anything
using my microphone. At first it used some generic driver (Microsoft High
Defintion Audio.. something like that) and after fiddling with it I think I
was able to get it to use the updated driver from Windows Update to stick
(did a Roll Back and after refreshing a couple of times it seemingly went
back to the SigmaTel driver). Well sure its using the new one (I hope >_>)
but nothing shows up Recording section. Somehow no audio devices are
installed.

Any suggestions?

General Computer Specs:
Gateway 840GM; Intel 945G (intergrated sound); Windows Vista RC1 (Build 5600)

I have a Gateway M675 Laptop with a Sigmatel Audio Chipset, the drivers were
not installed by RC1, but Microsoft Update offered a set (v5.xx), that did
not work (even though device manager showed fine). I downloaded the XP
drivers from GW site (v6.xx) and now have sound working.

I had similar problem but i found solution by myself. I had audio card

"REALTEK HIGH DEFINITIoN AUDIO"

First attempt to enabled the display of Disabled or Disconnected
devices in

(CTRLPANEL >> SOUND >> RECORDING area) where you have to right click on

blank area and select "SHOW DISBLED DEVICES" and "DISCONNECTED DEVICE"

But even after doing this STEREO MIX was now visible in this area to
enable

recording. Then I did some googling in many forums and did some
workaround

with no solution for long time.

Recently I found that I was using Microsoft's builtin driver in VISTA
and

not from the Manufacturer, but it was working well for everything else.

Microsoft's WDM drivers or the drivers we get after ONLINE WINDOWS
UPDATE

are 99.99% not compatible for this feature.

Then I gave a try and installed XP Driver Downloaded from INTEL website

under my Motherboard (D102GGC2) page. Vista driver was not available.
AND

VOILA,.....the option STEREO MIX have appreared like magic.

You can try this by installing XP/VISTA DRIVER of soundcard which comes
on

CD with your motherboard or with Integrated SoundCard Chip or download

latest one from SoundCard or Motherboard Manufacturer's website. Vista

drivers are still under process from most manufacturer's but
technically

XP-DRIVERS for soundcard work in VISTA without a hitch.

But as I wasted a lot time in this solution, I thought it will be
better

for internet that I share this to all forums I tried. This is the 5th
forum

I am registering to share my solution with all you pals.

Hope this helps.
